What is one thing would tell yourself as a coach?
No job is too big or too small, no matter the level you coach. Every part is important to build a successful program.
What is one thing player’s (recruits) should do when you are there to watch them?
Remember the intangibles, how do they receive coaching, how they interact with their teammates, and what is their work ethic
What is one thing they should not do?
Be a bad teammate, be selfish.
Thinking of skill development with respect to basketball and deliberate practice what are some of the things that you measure or look to improve?
Off hand ball handling, shooting on the move, multiple effort drills-the combination of offense and defense
Share how are you include leadership and followership in your drills?
You coach through every player on the team. In a drill you choose one player who leads the drill and you coach through that player in that drill, everyone else follows. In the next drill you coach through a different player and now the previous leader has to follow.
What are some other things we can do as coaches to help players with the transition from one coaching staff to another?
Coach to your personality. Make yourself accessible to the players Invite them to your office to talk, not just about basketball. Get to know the parents of your players too. Build relationships and earn trust.
If you have a magic wand and could change anything about coaching what would it be?
The ability to be around his players more. NCAA rules only allow so much time with your players on the court.
